StumbleUpon toolbar is excellent, learn how to use AutoMouseClicker to automate the clicking process & setup the keyboard shortcut on StumbleUpon toolbar to make the thumb up jobs easier.

In this article, I would like to share with you the “enhanced” technique to clear your StumbleUpon shares from friends even faster (previous article: Clear Your StumbleUpon New Shares From Friends Faster And Easier). Shares received from friends are usually great, however it is very time consuming to read each one of them in one go, especially when your inbox are flooded with many shares. Using this technique will save you some time for sure.

Nevertheless, the technique will only work with Window Operating System & Firefox Browser with Stumbleupon Toolbar installed (yet to be tested on IE).

Important Note: This technique does not encourage you simply to ignore or thumb up every shares, doing so will lose your credibility in Stumbleupon community. At the end of the day, you still need to view all shares you received & decide whether or not to exercise your thumb. The trick is to make this process more efficient.

1 Setting Up AutoMouseClicker & Toolbar Shortcut

If your system match the one as mentioned above (I believe you are), then the first step is to download & install AutoMouseClicker. Use this program to perform automatic mouse clicks on a specific position for a number of times.

Second, setup the Stumbleupon toolbar keyboard shortcut. Basically, we just need to setup one shortcut, which is the I like it! button. Click the Tools Menu of Stumbleupon toolbar & select Toolbar Options. Go to Shortcuts Tab & check the Enable Stumbling shortcuts checkbox. Change the shortcut key for Rate “I like it!” to Ctrl+Q, click the Change & then OK buttons.

I prefer Ctrl+Q because Q is located right beside W on our keyboard & we are going to use Ctrl+W to get our job done.

2 Use AutoMouseClicker to Automate the Clicking Process

Okay, now we are ready to go, double click the AutoMouseClicker icon to launch the program. Click the Locate button, point your mouse to Stumbleupon toolbar & click the Stumble button to capture the mouse position.

Next, key in the Click Interval, this is the waiting time between two clicks. Placing a 10000 to 20000 (10 to 20 seconds) should give your browser sufficient time to load a page. You may adjust the time according to your internet connection speed.

Fill in the number of times to click, this is the number of page you want it to be opened in new tabs, follow the number on your Stumbleupon toolbar.

Now, here is the trick … press the Shift key on your keyboard 5 times, and a MessageBox will appear. Click OK to turn on the Windows StickyKeys. Then press the Ctrl key 2 times to lock the Ctrl key.

A tiny icon will appear on the right side of the Windows Taskbar, showing the Ctrl key is lock. With the Ctrl key locked (similar to holding it), clicking on the Stumble button will open your shares from friends in new tabs. (You can turn the StickyKeys off by pressing the Shift+Ctrl keys)

Adjust your Windows Accessibility Option if this doesn’t work for you. Go Control Panel & select Accessibility Option, under the Keyboard tab click the Setting button under StickyKeys. Tick to turn the options on or off accordingly. (Windows 2000, XP, Vista & 7 are similar)

Click the START button on AutoMouseClicker to start the clicking process; your new share should be opened in new tabs automatically. In the meantime, leave your computer alone & have your free time. Do other things else & come back after the clicking process is completed.

3 Use the Keyboard Shortcut to Exercise Your Thumb

Now all your shares are opened in new tabs. To continue, first we need to press Shift+Ctrl to turn the StickyKeys off.

Remember, we have setup the keyboard shortcut for I like it!, which is Ctrl+Q. Besides, the shortcut for Close Tab in Firefox is Ctrl+W. This makes our life easier … place your left hand on the left side of your keyboard, press Ctrl+Q to thumb up a page & then Ctrl+W to close the tab, repeat the step for next tab. To ignore a spammy page, simply press Ctrl+W to close it. Meanwhile, you can use mouse wheel to scroll the page down & read the contents.

StumbleUpon toolbar has excellent features, Learn about the hidden features to your new shares receive from friends.

StumbleUpon is an excellent way to discover the web. Most of the StumbleUpon users install the StumbleUpon toolbar on their browser. If you are familiar with StumbleUpon toolbar, there is a queued new shares button (I’m not sure how to name it) on the toolbar which shows the number of your new shares received from friends. Those shares are shown in number, they are in queue for you to open. The number will keep on accumulating until it reach 99 & then 500. If you don’t clear the shares, your inbox will be shown “Full” to your friends.

The trick is to quickly open up the new shares in new tabs. Here is what you can do with the StumbleUpon toolbar: Click the Queue button with mouse scroll button or hold down the Ctr key & click the Queue button. Click the button continuously, while waiting for the multiple pages to load, exercise your thumb as necessary.

I really enjoy using StumbleUpon to discover new stuff. Hope this tip which have been useful to me would benefit you as well.

How to make Friends under the new stumbleupon V4. Subscription in the new version is the only way to connection with others.

The new Stumbleupon V4 has raised many concerns for some of the users. Besides the new interface, I believe one of the hottest issues is about the “Friends” features. The current feature of “Friend” will be removed and replaced by Subscriptions & Subscribers.

To perform an upgrade on any Social Networking sites will frequently lit up unhappiness among the users. I certainly don’t want to let the new Stumbleupon turn me down. Stumbleupon is a great place to discover new contents & interesting stuff.

Bookmark this Switch link: http://www.stumbleupon.com/switch.php. To switch to the new interface, click on this switch. Click on this switch again to switch back to the old interface.

The “Friends”

Under the current version, Friends is more important than Subscription. With Friends , you can interact & share contents with each other. The new Stumbleupon handles this interaction differently, connect with Friends is through Subscription which offers 4 ways as follow:

1. Conversion Of Friends To Subscribers Automatically, Really?

Previously, I was convinced by the Stumbleupon FAQ: Where are my friends? about the Friends feature …

Your friends in the previous interface are now the equivalent of Stumblers that you are subscribed to and can mutually share sites with from your toolbar. To find your former friends, go to Stumblers > Subscriptions and look for the two-way icon under their avatars. If the icon is there, it means you can mutually share sites with each other.

It sounds like all friends will be converted to Subscriptions or Subscribers. However, if you login to the new Stumbleupon today (19 Oct and most probably since three days ago), you will find a section called “Friends who are not subscriptions” (Stumblers > Subscriptions). Friends who are not under your subscriptions are placed under this section. According to the Official StumbleUpon Blog, this is a temporary sub-section to help users to bring their contacts up-to-date.

2. Subscribe To The “Friends who are not subscriptions”

Now, it may be a good time to do a bit of friend cleaning. It is advisable to re-access your existing friends & subscribe to their favorites under this sub-section. There is no clear direction of what exactly Stumbleupon is going to do with our existing friends. Nevertheless, no one would like to lose their friends contact after the change has taken place. It is also important to check the “accept shares to my toolbar” checkbox , to enable friends to share their contents with us.

3. Would We Lose The Contact With Our Friends?

We can move all our friends from the temporary sub-section to the Subscription section. By doing so, we maintain all our existing friends contacts.

4. Friend Request vs. Subscription

In current version, making a friend request is straightforward, through a mouse click on the “Send Friend Request” link. Both parties become friends when the others accept the request.

Under the new version, the same result can be achieved by subscribing to others’ favorite, both become mutual when the others subscribe back by checking the of the “accept shares to my toolbar” checkbox.

5. Inbox vs. Subscribers

Currently, all our friend requests are received in the Inbox where we accept or reject the requests from there. In the new version, we look for the Subscribers (Stumblers > Subscribers) which has no two-way icon under their avatars. We visit their profile & Subscribe to their favorites by checking of the “accept shares to my toolbar” checkbox.

6. Subscribers Who Have Their “accept shares to my toolbar” Unchecked

In this case where your Subscriptions or Subscribers have the “accept shares to my toolbar” unchecked, you will not be able to share content with them. I believe, the best way to normalize the relationship is to request them to check the checkbox via a nice message.
